The Number 1 Best Laundry Tip
That changed the way I do laundry forever…
My family and I recently traveled on the Blue ridge parkway, beautiful mountains for miles and miles. It was amazing. Then we got home. We unpacked and that’s when we were face to face with a new type of mountain. The mountain of laundry.
The laundry is the worst chore in my opinion. Want to know why? Because its never done. Unless of course you plan to do the laundry naked and hang out as such for hours. I mean it is a thought….
I used to do it twice a week because I disliked it so much. Just dedicate 2 days to utter horribleness and have it over with. However, as I mentioned, it is never actually over. Thus, to conquer the crazy of laundry I decided to switch it up. It has been life altering! This simple trick has turned my most despised chore into my favorite.
Are you ready for it? Remember to keep an open mind and I truly promise this will work for you.
I have assigned each day to one load (or two) of laundry. Then I put it in the night before and in the morning move it over to the dryer. When I have a second (either at nap time or right after) I fold it. Simple, quick and it all gets done. No more laundry left in the washer or dryer. No more piles of unfolded clothes. AND no more overwhelming feeling of mom failure at the mountains of clothes.
What does this look like?
Mondays & Thursdays, I wash my husbands and I’s clothes. This day there are normally two- three small loads because I sort out the delicates and pants.
Tuesday & Friday, I wash the towels. All the towels in the house. For me this is one load, but it may be two for you. However, they are easy to fold and simple to put away. Tuesday and Friday are our busiest days, so I keep the towels for these days.
Wednesdays, I wash the girl’s clothes. One load. Simple. They have enough clothes to last the whole week.
Saturdays, I do one load of sheets. I wash the sheets every other week. Which means, on week one I wash My husbands and my sheets. On week 2 I wash the girls’ sheets.
This system has been a life saver for me. It has been so helpful to how things get done. It also helps make time for other cleaning in the house and time with family.
Plus an EXTRA tidbit…
I have one more awesome tip with laundry. Think of it as a bonus. I make my own laundry detergent. It has saved us tons and it works great! I have tried a few, but this recipe is by far my favorite. Frugal Family Home blog has it going on when it comes to homemade laundry detergent! (And a lot of money saving tips)
