Love Bug Headband
A Valentine’s Day Craft for Kids
It is February first and the Valentine’s day crafts are already in full swing at our house, including this adorable love bug headband. I am not big on Valentine’s because my birthday is the 16th, however, I do love some hearts! The more hearts the better and this time of year you can add hearts to just about anything you want! There are so many cute ideas out there for what to do this Valentine’s Day. My hope is to be able to put together a list of cute ideas for you like this one I did as a guest post! But for now let’s start with the love bug headband.
There are not many steps or supplies needed. However, I do insist on hot glue for the pipe cleaners. I let my daughter use a glue stick but unless you want to hold it there all day it just isn’t as strong. So I will say you will need both types of glue, but you can use your own discretion.
Black Paper (Cut out 2 small black hearts)
2 pipe cleaners
glue/ hot glue
Begin by folding the red paper in half long ways and cutting it in the middle. This way you end up with two long strips of red paper. Next get the black paint and using a finger dot the red strips. (This part has a few options, you could use paint, ink pad, or even cut out black circle and glue them on, it is completely up to you)
Next, while the dots dry. Get out the pipe cleaners. Wrap them around your fingers as in the picture. This will make is spiral.
Then, glue the black hearts onto the pipe cleaners.
When the dots are dry, glue the pipe cleaners onto the back (side without dots) of the red strip.
Next, glue on the googly eyes and make a smile with a marker.
Finally, staple one side of each strip together. Then wrap around your child’s head to size the headband and staple the other ends. Now you are done!
This is such a simple craft and so many littles enjoy it. It is great for a small group of toddlers, or a Valentine’s Party at school! Emory loves wearing it around the house, she tried to let her sister borrow it, but it did not fit her head! Ha! Oh well. What are some of your favorite things to do during Valentine’s season?
