Escape Room Date Night-In
A Subscription Box Review

My husband and I had a date night the other night, the first in what seemed like forever. It was so nice to be able to spend time with one another without one of our girls interrupting us or complaining about what I was making for dinner. (Yup it happens) No we were able to spend some one-on-one time together. We wanted to keep it quiet and cheap, (budget-friendly?) so we made dinner together and then tried out one the coolest subscription boxes I have ever done.
We are always looking for new ideas to do on date night besides dinner and… well that’s all we normally have time for. So this week we decided to stay in, without kids, and complete our first escape room. Yes, I said that right, this subscription is set up as an escape room that you can complete at home. So I am about to give you my review of how this box by Dispatch from Breakout went for us.
I ordered it online, which the first box is FREE with only having to pay for shipping. This is a great way to try it out and see what it is all about. There are 3 different options of boxes. The dots are not the level of difficulty ( as I thought and soon found out not to be true) but instead are how many boxes it takes to complete the story. We chose the I, Spy storyline. If you are having a party, there is also the option to purchase the entire game at once instead of in monthly segments.
I received it in the mail within 10 days. I was so excited to try it out, the box was super cool, and I might actually keep it for some Christmas gifts. We quickly planned for when we wanted to try it out. It worked out perfectly because my mother-in-law wanted grandchild time!
What to do first?
We started our date night and opened the box. Inside were a bunch of clues and folders to read over. We read all the letters and information first. However, we were unsure of what exactly we were suppose to do first or even what we were suppose to be solving. It was not super clear in the beginning. We finally just started by calling a number.
Is it Real?
Dispatch by breakout has done an excellent job of making you feel as though you are part of the game. You call numbers, follow Instagram accounts, “hack” emails, and look up fake websites. At one point in the evening my husband said, “they aren’t going to send someone to our house right?” It was very real. We got to a point where we looked up a website and besides for my husband realizing that it was not a real place I would have been fooled.
-First Box Free
-Buy all boxes at once
– Directions are not specific
-One box is just beginning ( we found this out the hard way when we got to a clue and had no idea what the answer was. I realized the dots were not for difficulty but for the amount of boxes)
Overall we really did have fun. We will probably keep our subscription so we can finish out our storyline. It was a fun date-in idea that had us working together to find the answers instead of being competitive against one another. I also want to check out their kids version designed for 3-5 year-olds. Working as a family to discover the secret and answer the questions!
Subscribe today for this fun time with your spouse! Remember you only pay shipping for your first box!
