Today I want to share a piece of my childhood with you. It is one of the things I remember most about being a kid. What is it? My favorite homemade Play-Dough recipe.
I use to love making this play-dough with my mom. It was amazing to see as the dough changed color and that I could make it myself! As a grown-up I love it even more. You get A TON of play-dough from one batter, so it is awesome to create and store in Ziploc baggies. It is SUPER budget friendly and really simple to make. I just finished a post about having your kids in the kitchen, well this is an amazing way to get them there. My littles love making play-dough and ask for it all the time. It saves for about 6 months, and then the oil starts leaking. But 6 months beats a small container that dries up.
1 Cup of Flour
1/2 Cup of Salt
3 Tablespoons of Veg Oil
1 Package of Kool-Aid
1 Cup Boiling Water
Mix the flour, salt, oil and Kool-Aid together. It will look strange but it is okay because you haven’t added the water yet.
Add the one Cup of boiling water. Watch the magic happen. This is my kids favorite part because the color they picked begins to show. Everyone stands amazed hoping they picked the right color. Melody use to scream in joy at the sight of her flour changing color.
Stir then knead. (Once it cools off a little have your kiddos do the kneading) You really have to knead right away but it will be warm. Be prepared for this. Once it cools off in about 2 minutes the kids can knead it. It will not actually need to be kneaded but they will want to anyways.
Let sit for about 5 minutes, This is mostly so that it cools down. It can be hot for awhile so don’t worry if that is the case. It will get better soon. Then your kids will play for awhile. The best part is that is smells good too!
Now you have play-dough. How simple was that? It is so much fun and easy to create.
Check out these cool play-dough mats. It helps with learning and they are already made for you!
