3 Steps to a GREAT New Year
Every year everyone jokes about how this year everything will change. This will be the year that you get fit or eat heathy, get organized or on top of finances, this is the year you find a better job or spend more time at home. Something about the New Year makes us want to do better to grow to become a better version of ourselves. For some reason the new year signifies a new beginning. The sad part is that it isn’t a blank slate. There is not a do over. However, all hope is not lost! Here are 3 easy steps to a great new year.
Step 1: Reflect & Admit
Reflect on both the positives and negatives of this past year. I want both because it is important to point out all the items you have accomplished and done correctly in the year. I can guarantee you are not a total failure. So, look into your year. What have you done right?
Admit or come to terms what you did not like about this year. What was it about 2018 that has you wanting a change. Did you eat too much? Snack too much? Horde all the magazines that came in the mail? Prioritized your phone over your family. Admitting what you disliked about 2018 helps you to narrow down how to change in 2019. This step is important because it makes you focus on specific items instead of going into this overwhelming need to change. It marrows down what you want your new focus to be on and how you can become better. It also is good to admit where you have fallen to pick yourself up and do better.
Step 2: Write It
This step is two-fold. First, you need to write down what your expectations are for 2019. Expectations based on what you want to change. NOT on situations and others that you do not have control over. Also, do not be afraid to write down items that you loved about 2018 that you want to keep working on.
Second, write down how you are going to make it happen. Essentially you are writing down your goals and the steps to achieve those goals. It will look like this. The ultimate goal listed with the steps to make it happen! Do not make the steps or goal unattainable. Begin with easy steps to make sure you get a win. A win is a big deal and will keep you motivated.
Step 3: Create a Visual & Check in
Creating a visual will help tremendously. Making you focus on what you want to achieve. A great place to put this is in your bathroom so you can start the day by looking at what your goals are and helping you stay focused on those goals. There are so many different visuals on Pinterest. That being said, it could even just be a motivational quote that gets you pumped and ready. Also, find someone to check in with to make sure your staying true to your goals. Just having to check in with someone will make it tricky to not be consistent.
There you go, 3 easy steps to a great year. Of course, ultimately this these steps mean nothing without follow through. You have to be willing to put in the work and effort to see it happen. If you are not consistent, and you are not following the steps you laid out then nothing will change. The same rut will be there, and you will continue to run in the sinking sand you have laid out before you. So, here’s to making a change. Here’s to a New Year! Here’s to a better version of you!
Happy New Year!
